Scrolls

Scrolls are used to put magic spells down on paper. You can give a person a scroll of a spell which they do not have, and they can attempt to invoke the spell. In this fighters or lesser mages can cast a spell which is beyond their skills. A scroll's usefullness depends on how well it was written, how well you are able to read it, and the condition of the scroll. Some would require a mage with high reading skill in order to be invoked and used, while others can even be invoked by a fighter with very low intelligence.

To inscribe a scroll:

inscribe spell name power

Example: inscribe lirrin's_glow 500

(Here you will inscribe a scroll of lirrin's_glow at a power of 500.)

The power is a percentage of the spells cost in aura. 200 is the default, and 100 is the minimum. How good a scroll you write depends directly on your scroll writing skill, your knowledge of the spell, and the amount of power you put into the scroll. note: do not use the @ symbol for power like you do when casting a spell. To invoke a scroll:

invoke spell name [!] args

Examples: invoke heal_other gashta or invoke heal_other gashta right hand

(Here you will invoke a scroll of heal_other while using gashta as a target in the first example, and gashta's right hand as a target in the second example.)

invoke heal_other ! gashta

(Here you will practice invoking a scroll of heal_other while using gashta as a target. However this will erase the scroll, but you will have the blank scroll.)

When invoking a scroll, one can cast the spell for real, or practice their reading skill. If you don't use the ! after the spell name, then the spell is cast for real, and the scroll withers away as the power is spent. If you put a ! after the spell name, then you are practicing your invoking, and the words are erased from the scroll, but the scroll doesn't go away. (You didn't use the full power of the scroll, merely the power of the spell.)
